While the story is good and the visuals are stunning, the fact that it is AI generated is very obvious, making it quite difficult to connect emotionally. Still, AI provides us with great visuals, nice direction, and two extremely good looking AI men.
El Callejón de los Milagros (Mexico) [Midaq Alley]Set in and around the eponymous alley in Mexico City, this 1995 Mexican film examines the lives and relationships of its residents. I watched the segment structured among the 4 segments that features a gay angle. Don Ru, a middle aged man and owner of the Local Hangout cantina, has been married for thirty-odd years and is the father of three children, yet he is a homosexual. He starts an affair with a man from a clothing store who is much younger, causing his wife humiliation and provoking the rage of his hotheaded son Chava. He makes no effort to hide the affair, and it becomes the talk of almost everyone until the day Chava loses him, kills the young lover, and flees to US.
Back Room (Spain)The camera stalks men through a Barcelona gay club’s back room on a characteristically crowded Saturday night, granting us access to their inner thoughts via voice overs. It feels quite grungy and painfully accurate, showcasing every trope imaginable: the hunk who makes do, the kid being brutally used who lacks the assertiveness to refuse the horrors mauling him, and the disdain for fems, olds, and uglies. While Grindr might have altered the landscape, much of this back room cruising persists. Even as a short from 1999, I find it remains as relevant today.
Magid/Zafar (UK)This is a story about Pakistani boys immigrants. Magid works in a restaurant where chaos ensues because everyone around him is excited about his upcoming wedding. We are introduced to Zafar—initially through texts and later in person when he arrives at the restaurant—and it turns out they are lovers, though Zafar was unaware of the wedding. By choosing the social safety net and conformity of an arranged marriage, Magid has compromised their relationship. The film’s first half is full of frantic Chao, but the second half shifts dramatically toward a stillness that allows the two men to finally talk in silence like two mature people. Ultimately, the tension in their relationship finds resolution in a supremely passionate and erotic kiss. Beautiful film.
A Perdição de Lázaro (Brazil) [Lazaro’s Temptation]Lázaro spends a lot of time at the gym without seeing the expected results… until he signs up for the premium plan one day. Tempted by the hot muscle surrounding him, he is constantly thinking of them. Featuring an all black queer cast, this film explores gym cult, friendships, surveillance, and desirability. At one point, it shifts into a full trip, abandoning a traditional narrative. I am not sure what the point of the film was. Between the constant chatter with his colleague and the sudden moment where no one recognized him!! Is the message to be yourself? Or to make the change you want to be?
I’m Gonna Kill You (2025)In a future where humanity is on the brink of extinction, survivors are organized into distinct colonies. Within this setting, we encounter three gay couples who are not pressured to procreate, left with nothing but the freedom to enjoy life. Cal and Spector are lovers whose “twisted games” intensify as members of the colony start to vanish. It is revealed that One of them is responsible for killing all other gays because he refuses to let his partner sleep with anyone else. The short explores the concept of a gay separatist utopia, only to question if such a community can endure the darkness held within its own people. A bit weird for me!
Pakka (Netherlands)Bonding over cricket and their chosen family, four gay Indian friends live in the Netherlands. Their friendship faces a trial when Kathir agrees to an arranged marriage to maintain connections back home, forcing him to choose between his loyalty and his love. This was a surprisingly beautiful film about navigating one’s culture alongside their sexuality. The chemistry of four friends is amazing a die story is told with such tenderness and warmth. Rather than providing the conclusion we expect, it presents a reality that most india gay men might be able to relate with. Beautiful film!

However, when a TV report claims to have identified the exact cause and timing of homosexuality, Conor is left with troubling questions. He also questions if they might engineer his younger brother’s birthday party to ensure he turns out straight, and whether he would even want his brother to be gay. It is a very interesting concept.
Something Still (USA)A heartbroken man goes back to the home he once shared with his ex-boyfriend, leading the former lovers to confront the emotional wreckage of their breakup. As old memories resurface, they trace the fallout back to a casual, boundaries-blurring threesome that created deep emotional complications. One of them had suggested the threesome, unaware that in the future, it would be this third person and his boyfriend who would grow too close, ultimately causing the demise of their relationship.
Matches (USA)This horror-comedy offers a very interesting look at modern day gay dating culture. After a host invites people to a party, everyone quickly discovers they have only ever met him online and are meeting him for the first time in real life. He explains that he felt this would be a better alternative to the usual online grind. As he begins eliminating guests one by one, the situation turns into a horror show where they all keep getting killed. The final two survivors are two guys who became friends during the party itself. Featuring a twist that you do not see coming, I think this was quite innovative, scary yet funny.
Cherry (Canada)In this short coming-of-age drama, high school sophomores Charlie and Emmett bond over adolescent sexual insecurity. They are waiting in an adjoining motel room while their trans classmate has decided to hook up with an older guy to lose their virginity. Upon coming out, they discuss how they expected all the great bells and whistles, but instead, they dont feel anything at all different.
Picking Crew (New Zealand)This is a subtle and poignant exploration of Pasifika masculinity and its queer-tinged boundaries. When a new guy joins the apple picking crew, he mostly hangs out with one guy who is different. While the others are mostly married and act in a brash, almost bully like manner, it is only through eye contacts and conversations that they realize they have something in common.
