The Secret Past Between Me and the Young Master (4)

13 Since this year, the young master has regarded his banking job as a side job and his Amway business as the main line of his life. Although he is in other branches, he comes to us after get off work to talk about life, career, and dreams, making everyone here not want to see him. The young master once cheated and obtained each of our ID cards, and paid 80 yuan out of his own pocket to apply for a preferential customer card for each of us. As a result, few people have used it so far, but he is happy to renew our cards every year. I really don't understand whether he is doing business or playing. One of my colleagues' ratings of him well reflects the nature of the young master. I remember that day when everyone was discussing who was suitable for which department, When talking about the young master, Mr. Sun said meaningfully: I think the most suitable job for a young master is to go home and be a young master. This evaluation really hit the nail on the head. Since he started working in Amway, he has specially cleaned up the basement of his home to make a studio, and set up several display cabinets to display Amway products. He gives people the impression that he is a person who really wants to do something big. After buying a product display cabinet, the problem faced was the lock of the product cabinet. Although the things of rich people are high-end, it is really…

This drug reduces inflammation and improves immune function in HIV patients

The antiviral drug letermovir (Prevymis), which targets cytomegalovirus (CMV), was associated with reduced inflammation, improved CD4 /CD8 T cell ratios, and better physical function in HIV patients who were receiving effective antiretroviral therapy, a study showed at the 2025 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in San Francisco. Based on the findings, letermovir "may be the most exciting intervention to target inflammation and aging in HIV patients in the last 20 years ," said lead researcher Dr. Sarah Janela Weibel of the University of California, San Diego . Although antiretroviral therapy (ART) can suppress HIV replication indefinitely, HIV-infected individuals remain susceptible to chronic inflammation, which may contribute to comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease and age-related effects such as frailty. CMV coinfection in HIV-infected individuals is associated with an increased risk of frailty and other adverse effects of aging. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) belongs to the herpes virus family and is transmitted during sexual intercourse and between mothers and babies through body fluids such as saliva and urine. Studies have shown that about one-third of children, half of middle-aged adults, and up to 90% of the elderly in the United States have been infected with CMV, and the infection rate is even higher in low-income and middle-income countries. CMV is usually asymptomatic in people with healthy immune systems, but reactivation of the virus in people with advanced immunosuppression can cause severe disease. Before the advent of effective antiretroviral therapy, AIDS patients were susceptible to CMV colitis, pneumonitis, encephalitis, and retinitis, which can cause blindness. Asymptomatic CMV infection is not usually treated, but letermovir (Prevymis) is used to prevent disease in CMV-positive…

The Secret Past Between Me and the Young Master (3)

10 After the National Day, the boss also came back to continue his chaotic life. I also had to finish my two-month study. To be honest, our class of bank employees was really slow to join the company, and the training time after joining the company was also long. As a result, the pre-job study after being assigned was even longer. It took more than three months in total. I finally had to start preparing for the job examination. When I went to work in the morning, my supervisor informed me that I would have to take the test today and asked me to prepare. The test was scheduled at around 10:30 when there were usually fewer people. At about 10:20, I received a call from my supervisor saying that I was ready and could start the test. Then I started to prepare to accept the judgment of fate. I learned from my master, Sister Mantou, so I also took the test at counter No. 2. The master also sat at counter No. 1 and watched me. The first transaction was relatively easy, a credit card repayment. Sister Mantou and Master repeatedly and quietly emphasized the precautions to me. It was smooth, but the second transaction was to deposit 200,000 yuan in cash. I burst into tears. Although deposits and withdrawals are usually very simple transactions, a large amount of 200,000 yuan, including binding and stamping, is indeed a big challenge for a newcomer like me, especially when passing the machine. I have no experience and repeatedly get errors for…

The handsome guy I met at a friend's wedding

The story happened last year. I haven't been out for 800 years. This year, I was invited by my classmates to go to the south to attend their wedding. I also traveled to relax.        After arriving at the destination, my classmates arranged for me to stay in the hotel. They knew that I didn't like to sleep with others, so they opened a big bed room for me. After a short rest, I started eating and drinking that night. Because I hadn't seen him for many years, I naturally drank a little more. When I was halfway through drinking, a few of his friends came. It happened that one of them was the one I liked. He was white and clean, with deep eye sockets and straight eyebrows. He looked a bit like a mixed-race. He looked very well-proportioned and thin. During the period, he took off his shirt because it was hot. It didn't matter. Under the clothes was a heavenly figure, without a trace of extra fat, and not muscle. This figure is my favorite. After asking, I found out that his grandmother was Greek, so the children in the family looked a bit mixed. / After eating, we went to KTV. With the foreshadowing of eating together before, everyone was more relaxed after arriving at KTV. You asked me to drink, I did it with you, and then it was the same old way of rolling dice and drinking. The little monkey I was watching was drunk. There was no way. His home was far…

The Secret Past Between Me and the Young Master (1)

01 On June 27, 2012, I looked back at the place where I had lived for four years, packed my underwear and socks that were drying on the bedside into the suitcase, and closed the door. The university that accompanied me for four years is gone! Before graduation, I was always struggling with an ambiguous relationship, so I didn't think seriously about my life. When I really found that I was about to enter the society, I realized that I was half a beat late. Some of my roommates had already received offers from famous companies and were ready to do internships, and some were preparing for postgraduate entrance examination interviews. At that time, I didn’t even know what I was going to do in the future. I had several interviews, but none of them worked. I prepared for the civil service exam for a while, but when the exam was approaching, I gave up for various reasons. Fortunately, there is always a way out. Finally, I saw a bank’s campus recruitment on a job recruitment website for fresh graduates, and applied with a try-it attitude (at this point I had to complain about the bank’s recruitment process, which lasted a full half a year from posting the information to the final employment), and I was really lucky to get in. Because the bank's onboarding process is a little slower than others, as of today, all my roommates have left, and I am the only one who is still preparing for the onboarding and signing various documents. I finally got…

The Secret Past Between Me and the Young Master (2)

07 Ordinary time actually passed very quickly. I kept flirting with the young master in the morning before going to work, and flirting with the eldest brother at night. The old man was full of literary talent, but he was too picky and had been looking for a job with me. However, he interviewed one company after another. He either dislikes me or not. He never disagrees with me. So I always tease him every day, hoping that he can lower his status. Sometimes when I get angry, I just ignore him and go to the playground by myself. It was Friday, and the boss had just finished an interview with Xinhua Life. When I asked him, he said he could only offer a salary of over 3,000 yuan, so I refused. I scolded him for being unambitious, and then went to the playground to run angrily. At this time, I received a call from the young master and asked him what was going on. Suddenly, I remembered that I wanted to treat them to a meal, so I asked if they wanted to come to school tomorrow and I would treat them to a meal. The young master readily agreed. The next day, the young master called me at around 9 o'clock and asked me how to get there. I told him the route and then started thinking about a problem. I am now living with the eldest brother and sleeping in the same bed. How can I explain to the young master when the time comes when I…

Once a year, it can be called a "mini" HIV vaccine, right?

New findings from a phase 1 study investigating two formulations of once-yearly intramuscular (IM) lenacapvir for HIV preoperative prophylaxis (PrEP) were discussed at the 2025 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections. The results, published simultaneously in The Lancet, represent a major advance in the fight against HIV and could open new avenues for long-term prevention. Comparison of once-yearly and twice-yearly formulations of lenacapvir In the Phase 1 study, participants received a single dose of 5,000 mg of either the first formulation (containing 5% ethanol) or the second formulation (containing 10% ethanol) by intramuscular injection. Both formulations showed encouraging pharmacokinetic profiles, with lenacapavir concentrations remaining above the threshold associated with efficacy for more than 56 weeks. Overall, the two formulations compare very well. The pharmacokinetic data showed that the once-yearly lenacapvir formulation lasted for more than 52 weeks, specifically 56 weeks, and consistently maintained above 95% effective concentrations. Key results from the study included median trough concentrations at Week 52 of 57 ng/mL for the first formulation and 65.6 ng/mL for the second formulation, both exceeding the median trough concentrations of 23.4 ng/mL observed with the previously twice-yearly subcutaneous (SC) formulation at Week 26. These results suggest that the once-yearly formulations not only last longer, but also maintain higher plasma concentrations compared to the twice-yearly SC formulations. The study confirmed that these high concentrations remained stable over 56 weeks. The median peak plasma concentration was 247 ng/mL for the first formulation, while the second formulation had a higher peak of 336 ng/mL, which is much higher than the highest concentration observed…

My - The Series (Burmese Series)

This is a BL show from Myanmar, which seems to draw heavy inspiration from Thai BL dramas, particularly those set in universities and schools. The ending felt somewhat open-ended and unexpected, and I’m still not entirely sure what message the creators were trying to convey. Nonetheless, it’s good to see the BL genre expanding. With 9 episodes, each about 10 minutes long, the show takes its time to unfold. While there is a clear storyline, I feel the screenplay and direction lack polish. Still, I appreciate the attempt. Oh, and what's up with the title? Shouldn't it be "My Heart" given the heart symbol on the posters? The show begins with a girl being killed in a bar, then jumps ahead a year. Thu Kha, a young boy with a heart condition, is studying in school, though he seems to be doing okay overall. A new student, Nay Thit, joins the school after being expelled from his previous one. He quickly befriends Thu Kha and his group of friends, and sparks start flying between the two, despite rumors about Nay Thit’s anger issues and the gossip that he might have been involved in a killing. Then, the villain enters: the brother of the girl who was killed, who believes that Nay Thit murdered her while they were dating and is out for revenge. Nay Thit confesses to Thu Kha that the girl had once shown interest in him, but he never liked her, and that she eventually moved on to a jealous boyfriend. The villain vows revenge in a rather…

The Judgment

Internalized homophobia is a force that can be incredibly powerful. We often think of it as a lingering sense of shame or something that fades away once someone comes out, but in reality, it manifests in many different ways and is often deeply shaped by cultural contexts. We've seen numerous films dealing with homosexuality and religion, but add in elements like superstition and witchcraft, and you create a genre that’s not often explored in contemporary gay cinema. Set against the backdrop of Egypt, a country with a visually stunning landscape, this film becomes a taut, suspenseful thriller about gay men struggling to reconcile their sexual identities with their families’ religious convictions. It builds intensity through several jump scares but remains carefully crafted in its approach. Mo and Hisham, a couple, travel to Egypt to meet Mo’s mother after the recent death of his father. Due to the highly homophobic environment in Egypt, they must pretend to be just friends for their own safety. Returning to Egypt, however, makes Mo anxious and uneasy, as he has a past that slowly unravels throughout the film. When Sara Hegazi, an Egyptian lesbian activist, tragically commits suicide after being imprisoned and tortured for waving a rainbow flag at a concert in Cairo, Mo’s own struggles intensify. Hisham, out of a desire to keep them both safe, decides to avoid doing anything "gay" in public. This leads to a realization that Mo still views their relationship as sinful. When Mo visits his mother, she refuses to meet him, and instead, an old adversary is there.…

Best Years 2024

Firstly, I have to mention that this isn’t exactly a movie. It's more like six episodes stitched together, with a total runtime of about 50 minutes. I’m not sure if that’s how it was originally meant to be, or if the version I saw was edited in this way, but regardless, it felt a bit silly and didn’t really capture my interest. The storyline was basic, the acting a little over-the-top, and honestly, there wasn’t much that stuck with me afterward. The plot revolves around Troy, who recently moved to Brooklyn with his friend Pat and Pat's then-boyfriend, Chance. However, Troy and Chance broke up, and they haven’t had the time or space to process the breakup to consider whether they might reconcile. Troy works as a busboy and generally walks around looking grumpy and bitter, still harboring feelings for his ex. When a new neighbor, Abel, moves in—a sweet 29-year-old middle school teacher—Troy's hopes for a reunion with Chance are officially pushed aside. As Troy and Abel get to know each other, the tension between whether Troy will reconcile with Chance or start something new with Abel builds. Eventually, Chance returns, hoping to rekindle their love, but this time, Troy shuts him down. Meanwhile, Troy’s roommate Pat is trying to land a job with the mayor’s re-election campaign. And that’s pretty much the entire plot—without a proper resolution. As I mentioned, the lead actor playing Troy often went a little overboard with his performance, which, for me, became annoying after a while. The comedy just didn’t land, at least…

Layla (UK)

*Layla* is a beautifully crafted exploration of love, sex, gender, and friendship. The film’s summary—“When Layla, a struggling Arab drag queen, falls in love for the first time, they lose and find themselves in a transformative relationship that tests who they really are”—barely scratches the surface of what the film is really about. It’s refreshing to see a film that centers drag performers, not relegating them to the background as mere decorations, but focusing on their stories and offering a window into their internal worlds. The love story is full of ups and downs, and while you might not always agree with what’s happening, everything is handled with the gentle touch that such a delicate subject deserves. Layla is introduced living in London, surrounded by a vibrant community of queer friends with whom they perform drag and attend parties. The chemistry between Layla and their friends is palpable, and you can feel the strong sense of camaraderie. At one of these parties, Layla meets Max, a conventionally "straight" looking marketing executive. They share an instant connection and have sex, but it’s clear that this encounter is more than a one-night fling. As the relationship progresses, Layla and Max cautiously begin dating, each trying to woo the other in their own way. Layla can hardly believe they’ve found love. However, as the relationship deepens, the two of them begin to realize that fitting into each other's worlds is harder than they thought. Layla, who at home is known as Latif, comes from a traditional Muslim family and avoids spending time with…

After Forever: Season 3 (Web Series)

I watched the first two seasons of the show a few years ago and had completely lost track of when the third season came out. It's so hard to keep up these days! In fact, I had to go back and reread my own review to refresh my memory on what the series was about, so I could properly appreciate this new season. This season consists of 8 episodes, each around 10-12 minutes long, and picks up right where we left off in season 2. Here's a quick recap: Jason and Brian had been together for many years until Jason passed away from cancer. Brian, surrounded by a close-knit circle of friends, tried to move on by dating someone new, David. However, Brian’s inability to let go of Jason made it difficult for him to build a meaningful connection with David. The third season continues Brian’s journey, where we find him immersing himself in work. Despite his desire to move forward, the people around him—especially his friends and support system—won't let him fully move on. Even more haunting is the fact that Jason's ghost continues to speak to Brian. After a recommendation from a friend, Brian finally decides to see a therapist to help him work through his grief and figure out how to move on. The issue is, every time Brian tries to think about moving on, he is overwhelmed with guilt. Through several therapy sessions, Brian comes to realize that he and his friends have placed Jason on a pedestal, almost making him into an angelic figure. This…
